Posted on 17 Mar Cardboard Testimonies for Easter Outreach

Hi everyone! If you were at pccf on last Friday, you would've heard Joanna Ooi talking about our Easter outreach on the 27th, and the cardboard testimonies thing which we're doing. For those who weren't there, I'll briefly explain...we're going to make a video where ppl hold up a piece of cardboard - one side is written what they were like before they knew Christ and then they flip the cardboard over, and the other side is what they're like after Christ. It's just a simple way of sharing your testimony..and you don't even have to talk incase you're like camera shy...haha. If you don't quite get it, you can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvDDc5RB6FQ

We decided to expand the idea abit so people can share things besides their before/after Christ story...so we came up with some other topics/questions:

1. maybe can share smth God did for you that you're thankful for. can be recent or sometime ago.
2. can share smth abt God's faithfulness, or smth new you learnt about God during your walk with Him. or an encounter with God that changed you or convicted you or along those lines.
3. or haha you can share smth about someone you know (as long as the person consents)...how you saw God change him/her. this would probably only work if it's actually someone here and so we can video him/her too...otherwise it would be abit random just talking abt someone.

anyway, please think about it, cuz i think it's a chance for us to witness for the Lord even if it's just 2 sides of a cardboard, and the more we have, the better it'll be as an outreach tool. and it's a good encouragement to your fellow brothers/sisters as well! We're probably going to go round videoing this weekend or next week, so do think of what you want to say by then. Let either Joanna or me know if you're up for it, or if you have any ques or suggestions. Also please fwd this email to anyone who's not on the pccf mailing list (probably the freshers). and anyone who's not in edinburgh but would like to take part is welcome to video him/herself and send it to me =)=)

Thanks loads, have a good week and see you all on friday! =)

Posted on 4 Mar Spring Event This Friday

Dear all,

I'm hoping that most of you will know by now that we're planning to have a
spring social event this Friday instead of our usual Bible study. After
toying with many options, we've decided to have a Board games/Karaoke night,
with finger food thrown in. So it's going to be a great 'rojak' of
excitement!

Joanna Tham has kindly agreed to bring her karaoke machine on Friday but she
doesn't have mics. Charis, did you say you can procure several microphones
for us?

Can I also ask anyone with fun board games to bring them along. And of
course, it'll be great if people can bring along a bit of finger
food/drinks. It's not going to be dinner - just something to munch on
throughout the evening.

Please invite your friends to come along and join us to welcome Spring! (I
know, it still feels rather cold, but we live in hope, no?)

God bless
Roland

Posted on 26 Feb Outreach 'café' this Sunday evening

Dear all,

The Rock church will be having a 1-hour ‘café’ service this Sunday evening exploring the question “Does God Really Exist?”. It’ll be an hour in a relaxed ‘cafe’ atmosphere looking at reasons for believing in God (tea and coffee at the tables so it’ll be quite informal and non-preachy). It’s at 6pm at the Hilton Hotel (Grosvenor). I agree with Yun yi who thinks it’ll be a good opportunity for everyone to invite your non-believing friends along as part of PCCF’s outreach vision this year.

If you’re interested but haven’t been to the Rock before, get hold of Yun Yi for directions!

God bless
Roland

Posted on 18 Feb PCCF Retrea

Hello it'sme again :),

As most of you would have already known, the PCCF retreat 2009 is on! Again,

Theme and Speaker: TBC
Dates: 24-26 April 09
Venue: Compass Christian Centre, Glenshee
Cost: 50 pounds for students tentatively, around 60 pounds for working ppl

For those of you who have never been, could speak to those who have been e.g the cell leaders, it's definitely going to be great fun!! I know the it's pretty close to the exams, but I think the A students like yy still managed to remain as A students for the past 2 years and average students like me, well...... So yes studying is about interest, motivation and consistency, I guarantee that 3 days of extra cramming would defo not help because you would spend most of the time feeling gutted for missing out on something AWESOME!
The programmes usually includes worship, devotions, food, games, sports, campfire but the most important thing is to learn more about God, be refreshed by Him and get to know people (I mean people outside your cell) better.

Right, the main point of this email is to urge you to make a decision as soon as possible, ideally by this Friday.
Cell leaders: Could you please make sure ALL your cell members are made known about this retreat (forward them this email, verbal communication or anything) and encourage them to COME + make up their mind asap please :) I would probably come and speak to you guys this Friday.

Also, the main main point of this email is to recruit our committee members haha. If you are interested in any of the below:
1. Worship team
2. Game team (organising, supervising)
3. Treasurer
4. In charge of food
5. Logistics

Please email me or hian liang. Otherwise, we would probably have to voluntarily volunteer people. Please feel free to spam more emails around if I've missed out anything in this email. Remember, Friday would be the pre-deadline!
Have a nice week folks

Posted on 6 Feb The Father’s Love

Dear all,

I don't normally send out 'sentimental' emails but thought I would share a

revelation I have this morning in my quiet time about our Father's love.

The devotional passage was from 1 Samuel 1, about Hannah fervently praying

for and eventually being blessed with her son, Samuel. In her prayer, she

made a vow that she would give Samuel to the service of the Lord.

After the birth of Samuel, the natural bonding between Hannah and the child

would have been total - this was after all the child she had so longed for.

He was prayed for, hoped for and utterly wanted. And now after 3 years, the

time came for Hannah to take her young son to the sanctuary at Shiloh. Their

days of intimate closeness were now at an end: she had promised her son to

God and she would make good on her pledge.

Imagine her gathering his clothes, and the provisions for the journey: her

heart sad and yet glad at the same time. As they walk together towards

distant Shiloh, she savours Samuel's childish words and questions. At last,

Hannah gave her little boy one last hug and kiss, and then turned and walked

the lonely road home.

As a new dad (and also probably slightly emotional from a lack of sleep), I

was slightly overcome when I read this. I suppose I am beginning to

understand the strange and overwhelming love a parent has for his or her

child, and can only imagine how hard it must be for Hannah to give up her

son. As I was reading this, and listening to Hillsong singing 'Amazing

Love', I felt God telling me that this is a picture of His great love for me

and for us. He loves us so much that He would even give up His one and only

Son for us. And giving him up even in the full knowledge that he would be

tortured and killed.

I want to declare my love to a loving God and Father, and my prayer for all

of you is that you will have a personal revelation of God's unconditional

love for you today. No matter how far you feel you are away from God, no

matter how sinful you feel, how undeserving you feel, how hypocritical you

feel, know that your Father in heaven still loves you and will not stop

loving you.

God bless you all

Roland

Posted on 5 Feb Natalie’s birth

Dear all,

Praise God! Tammy gave birth to Natalie on 29th January. She was 3 weeks

early and so we were caught slightly by surprise. But thank God she seems to

be healthy and is feeding well through the valiant effort of Tammy!

God bless

Roland

Editor’s note: I accidentally deleted the email attachments and couldn’t recover it!! Sorry

Event Date 14 Feb 2009

Dear all,

Hope everyone had a great Chinese new year! PCCF is scheduled to help out at Oasis, the Rock Church's soup kitchen, on 14th Feb evening, it'd be a good opportunity to help bring some cheer to the homeless on a cold winter evening... If ur interested could u please let me know?

Many Thanks and God Bless,

Weekly Wednesday Prayer Meeting- 28 Jan 09

Dear all,

Hope it has been a good week for everyone so far. Always thought that Wednesday, the middle of the week, is the best time to come together in prayer to be recharged and refreshed before we march on towards the end of another blessed week. So yes it's on:

Wednesday 7:30 in The Rock church office!

Do not be afraid of being late as long as you make an effort to come :)

CNY celebration NEXT Friday (instead of this coming) 30/1/2009

Dear all,

Due to various reasons, we've decided that it may be better to have our PCCF

CNY celebration next Friday instead of this coming one. Instead, we'll

continue our study of the Book of John this Friday.

For next Friday, we plan to have a 'Movie and Tang Yuan' party. We'll watch

a suitably cheesy Chinese/Cantonese movie (don't worry, there will be

subtitles!) and we'll make tang yuan for everyone. Please invite your

friends to come along. It'll be fun!

Hope to see you there!

God bless

Roland

2 Jan 2009: Photos request

I am currently doing a low profile update to the PCCF website pccf.eusa.ed.ac.uk which has been untouched since 2007.

Can everyone send their photos from any PCCF events (or any other pccf related photos eg weddings :), birthdays, retreats etc) to me? You can save the photos in a USB flash drive and hand it to me on a Friday during bible study (I'm in Joanna's Group) or pass it to any 2nd yr medics (Sam, Sue Anne, Li Yenn, Yan Mei etc) during term time (12th Jan 09 onwards). I will try to remember to bring some flash drives to pccf on Fridays so you can borrow them. I have a card reader so you can hand me camera memory cards as well. I will be bringing my laptop to PCCF on the next few Fridays beginning 9th Jan so I can save the photos right away. If you upload your photos online (eg Flickr, picasa) you can just send me the link to those but make sure I can download them (not restricted access).

PLEASE don't give me any photos you don't want to show up on the website!! I'd be grateful if you categorise the photos according to events and year. I'm also collecting old PCCF photos so you can send those to me as well.

Videos- these are usually huge files so you'll need to upload it to youtube or other video sharing websites before they can be linked to the PCCF website. I can do this for you, just give me the DVD/USB flash drive/hard drive containing the videos and I can copy them to my laptop on the spot on a Friday. I have experimented with videos from the PCCF welcome evening and it seems to work quite ok except for some browser page format issues: http://pccf.eusa.ed.ac.uk/Video%20WE%2008.htm

Do you have any ideas, concerns or expectations for the PCCF website? Do you want to help out with the website? I want to hear from you!! Email me on wadrian6@o2.co.uk, facebook me (Adrian Wong Pang Loong) or look for me on a Friday (I'm in Joanna's group). Sorry I cannot guarantee a speedy response because I'm on holiday till term starts 12th Jan :). Note: I'm going Glasgow so i won't be at PCCF today. I'll be back by next friday.

Thanks and happy new year.

Adrian

19 Nov 2008: Update

Hi guys,

Thank you for coming to PCCF.eusa.ed.ac.uk. I'm Adrian and I've just got the password to this website from the very friendly EUSA staff at Potterow this afternoon. I realise this website has not been updated in a long time and I apologise for that. I'm currently trying to make some simple changes and updates, so if you'll just bear with me for a wee while, I hope, God willing, to get the site ready and complete by 31st January 2009. Don't hesitate to contact me wadrian6@o2.co.uk if you have any ideas, concerns or expectations for this website. I'll try to get back to you ASAP.

If you are new to PCCF, I'd like to give you a nice warm welcome. For your information, we get together every Friday at 7.45pm for bible study, this is when we welcome most new people to PCCF. We have an Open Meeting policy, so non-Christians, non-students and non-Chinese are definitely welcome to join us.

About the mailing list: We do a regular email update, but unfortunately I don't know much about it. Please be informed though, that the emails from PCCF are most probably listed as Junk Mail so you'll probably need to take a look at your Junk Mail area. I've never received any PCCF emails myself so I can't help much more than this at the moment but I'm sure a lot of you are getting emails and I just want to take this opportunity to say that I'm very jealous of you. :)

Update 02/01/09: I've just been included in the mailing list, which is a Yahoo PCCF group message posting service. If you want to be included in the mailing list, please email me at wadrian6@o2.co.uk.

Thanks!

Adrian

Videos from PCCF Welcome Evening 2008: The Prodigal Son

30 Sept 2007: ANNOUNCEMENT

Thank you to everyone who contributed to/attended the Welcome Evening. It was a great event, we really appreciate the support and spirit showed by everyone. Photos of the event will be put up in due time...

However, yesterday afternoon, just hours before the start of the Welcome Evening, two of our friends, Sin Ee and Alan, were injured in an accident which involved a car crashing into the bus stop that they were standing in. Here is a message from Roland, our PCCF elder...

Would appreciate prayer, thank you...
